The first term is flying by – here are some details and reminders 

• Some clarity regarding ‘Show and Tell’:
  • Please bring show and tell on a Tuesday only (unless you have a live creature that won’t survive until that day)
  • Please don’t bring toys for show and tell
  • There is no pressure to bring something for show and tell. If you have something interesting or related to the theme then send it. If you don’t have anything to send it’s ok, you don’t need to scramble around before school looking for something that might be suitable.  
  • Children are encouraged to bring books/stories they would like to share any time, not just on ‘Show and Tell’ day. 
• PLEASE DO NOT SEND TOYS TO SCHOOL. More and more children are doing this and they are trying to sneak in at free play times to play with them. Our concern is that special toys will get lost or broken. If this is a battle that you are fighting at home every day, then as the parent (who is in charge and not told what to do by the child), there is nothing wrong with you saying things like:
  • “ your toy can stay under your pillow or in the car, which 

          are you choosing?”  if they say they are taking it to 

          school, tell them that wasn’t one of the options and 

           remind them what the choices are…  or

• “leave your toy under your pillow and as soon as you get 

  home you can play with it” or

• “your toy can come with us in the car but when you get 

  out of the car it is staying in the car while you go to  

  school “ or

• “you can show your teacher, but then I am taking it with 

me. If you give me a hard time about that, we won’t be able to show your teacher a toy again.”

• We have some staff changes from 1^st March:
  • Mel du Toit will be taking over the Purple group so that Kim can be released more into assisting children who are experiencing difficulties in the area of speech. Mel was one of our very first teachers and it is very exciting to welcome her back onto the team.
  • Learnmore will be joining our staff as a grounds man.
  • Sadly, Kirsten Strydom from the Yellow Group will be leaving at the end of the term.  Tracey Simpson will be joining our team from the 2^nd term. 
• Wednesday 21st March is a public holiday – there will be no school, aftercare or holiday care on that day.  
• The term ends on Friday 23rd March 2012 at 10:00.  
• Aftercare will continue as normal, until 5pm on the last day of the term.  
• Holiday care will be operating from Monday 26^th March to Thursday 5th April.  
• Term 2 starts on Tuesday 10th April.
• Please can you let us know if someone other than yourself (or the usual person that collects) is fetching your child, either via René at the office or a note in your child’s note book. 
• Congratulations to Lisa and Nick Snaith, Kevin and Michelle Parry and Wes and Jess Cresswell on the birth of their babies. Welcome to your little boys! 

• Don’t forget to sell raffle tickets for the amazing weekend away!  There is a correction to our raffle form – the prize is a weekend at Springbok Lodge (not Nambiti Falls Lodge as printed on the form) Apologies to the sponsors and all concerned for the error and any inconvenience caused. There’ll be prizes for the group who sells the most tickets
• A reminder that Café Voce, Hillside Church’s coffee shop is open from 7:30 – 1:30 Tuesday to Friday. Pop in for a coffee, breakfast or lunch! 

• School closes: Friday 3 December
• Aftercare closes: Wed 15 December
• Aftercare opens: Mon 10 January
• School opens: Tue 18 January

We are having Jill Lawton as the guest speaker and are really excited about the concert this year. Its going to be a wonderful and a sad time as we will be saying goodbye to our second ever graduation class
